Active School Week Desmond College

May 29, 2017

The sun came out for one of the most anticipated weeks of the school year for our students.

This year students and teachers got to make their normal school week more active. All RE and SPHE classes were replaced with “Walk a Mile with a Smile” and junior groups got extra PE classes.

All year groups showed agility from the bouncing castles of Active Kingdom to zorbing it up on the pitch. Penalty shootout and long puck kept lunchtime entertaining!

For our senior classes CDC fitness and Zumba Gerry were on hand.

Smoothie Wednesdays was a treat on such a lovely hot day.

To finish off last 2 classes on the Friday, 6th year students took on the teachers in a game of volleyball!

The PE dept are looking forward to next year already.

Desmond College and Brothers of Charity Celebration

May 15, 2017

Desmond college TY class hosted their friends from the Brothers of Charity in their annual celebration at the start of May.

The group had great fun creating pieces of art together and listening to the Desmond College students perform some traditional Irish music.

There was great craic when the dancing and singing started and there was even a brush-dance competition.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and look forward to our continued friendship.

Free School Meals For Every Student In Desmond College

February 25, 2017

Desmond College is delighted to introduce the School Meals Programme.

This new initiative which has been available to students since Friday, 10th February 2017 allows Desmond College to provide breakfast and lunch provision to all students free of charge.

Desmond College is the only school in the locality to be able to offer such an amazing service to students. So what’s on the menu??

Breakfast:   Scrambled Eggs or Beans on Toast, Plain Toast, Cereal, Tea, Juice, Water and Fruit. (All for free)

Break:   Small filled roll or a Scone, Yoghurt or Crackers and Cheese, Fruit and Water (yes, all for free)

Lunch:   If the students would like a bigger lunch or a hot food option (Large Filled Roll / Lasagne / Shepherd’s Pie or Curry, with Fruit and Water) then this is available for just €2 extra.

This Initiative aims to provide regular, nutritious food to all of our students.

Research has shown that inadequate nutrition impacts negatively on children’s ability to learn and benefit from education. Proper nutrition can improve children’s ability to concentrate and reach their potential.
