Leaving Certs attending Hamlet on Monday 13th January 2020 with Miss Sara O’Doherty.
The Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board hosted a number of teachers from other European Countries as part of the European Erasmus Programme. As part of the teachers’ visit, they were invited to Desmond College to get an insight into the positive atmosphere and the excellent teaching and learning environment that our students and staff are part of.
Limerick Music generation facilitators are current holding Composing workshops with our TY music students within the school.
These workshops are running over 5 weeks. Students are gaining compositional experiences using various music technologies and methodologies.
Preparations are well underway for our School Musical – “Thank you for the Music”, a show based on the popular movie Mamma Mia! The musical features hit songs from the well-known band – ABBA!
Rehearsals are after school Tuesdays and Fridays with Katie Upton, Ms Keane and Ms McCarthy.
Excitement is mounting and we are looking forward to the opening show on the 7th of November.
An exciting start to the 2018 new academic year with rehearsals and planning underway for our School Musical “Mamma Mia”!!!!!
Our first year students have already met the production team and have started learning choreography and lyrics to one of the hit songs! The core cast has been selected and students are working on their lines, lyrics and characters.
We are thrilled to have Choreographer Kate Upton from “Over the Rainbow School of Dance” working with us again. The musical will be produced on the 07-09 November ’18.

Our TY class has just completed a 4-week creativity music workshop facilitated by Tony Monahan of Limerick Music Generation.
They have had the opportunity to work with various composing applications, music technology devices and recording devices. Some students composed a song, which was recorded and performed by the TY students.
Tony Monahan from Limerick Music Generation delivered this workshop to our Transition Year students.
The Annual Lions Club Concert with Liam Lawton took place on 30th November in NCW Parish Church. Desmond College Choir accompanied Liam throughout the Concert. Desmond College are so proud of the students who participated in the choir making it such a success and to Ms Keane, Ms McCarthy and Ms O’Brien for their amazing work with the choir. A wonderful night was enjoyed by all, and all the proceeds are going to a local charity.
Ms.Keane and Ms.O’Brien accompanied senior music students to St Mary’s Cathedral in Limerick where a full analysis and performance of Cantata BWV 78 Jesu, der du Meine Seele by Johann Sebastian Bach was conducted and analysed by Peter Barley.
It was performed by Ancor and St Mary’s Cathedral Choir. This Cantata is one of the four set works on the Leaving Certificate music course.
