Emily Duffy, 6th Year Student in Desmond College, has been named one of Ireland’s 20 Finalists in the 2017 Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards Programme.

This is an All Ireland recognition programme for outstanding young volunteers. The programme is run in partnership with the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD) and the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI).

The programme is also supported by Volunteer Now, Volunteer Ireland, Scouting Ireland and Foróige. Emily will receive a €500 award and an engraved silver medallion at a gala awards dinner in Dublin on 23rd March 2017. Two overall All-Ireland Youth Volunteers of the Year will be named at the dinner and will receive a Gold Medallion and €1000 grants for the charities of their choice.

Emily designed and made ‘The Duffily Bag’ which is a sleeping bag designed for the homeless which is currently being manufactured by homeless personnel in Dublin. Emily also featured in a French documentary recently with her product.

Emily recently took part in the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition Alumni Showcase where she took part in a Question and Answer session with Rio Ferdinand (ex Man Utd/England Football Captain). She will also represent Ireland in the Swiss Youth in Science Forum, in Switzerland this coming April.
