Centurions, a student enterprise company set up by Desmond College students Alice Duffy, Hannah McMahon, Katie Hallinan, Thomas Curtin and Dylan Moloney were awarded the Best Display Award at the All Ireland Finals of Student Enterprise Awards held in Croke Park in April.
22,000 students participate in this, the biggest competition of its type each year. Centurions had previously won the Limerick Finals and represented their county with distinction. They designed and produced an RFID wallet that prevents the theft of individual’s banking details by shielding signals from card skimmers, this is a serious problem and has increased in recent months with the introduction of contactless payments and the increased use of ATMs.
