The Code of Behaviour is under review (2011 – 2012)
Purpose of School Rules and Regulations.
To encourage students to develop a respect for themselves, parents/guardians, peers, teachers, the community in general and respect for school property.
To set a pattern for adulthood, so that students will be able to adapt more easily to such things as punctuality, co-operation, application and pride in their work.
To help students develop a sense of responsibility and honesty whereby each student will feel it is his/her duty to ensure that the behaviour of all conforms to the code of discipline.
The philosophy underpinning the disciplinary system is positive and not repressive or negative, so that students who leave school will be young men and women of integrity.
Classroom
Each student must:
- Co-operate fully in the work of the class.
- Complete, in a satisfactory manner, whatever homework the teachers require.
Have with him/her class materials, textbooks, copybooks, pens, pencils, instruments, etc. as required by each teacher at all times.
Use the place assigned to him/her by the teacher and should not move about the classroom without the teacher’s permission.
Leave and enter the classroom in single file or as required by School Rules.
Not leave the classroom except with the teacher’s permission in exceptional circumstances.
Not enter any classroom containing specialised equipment (Science, Home Economics, Metalwork, Woodwork, Language Laboratory, etc.) without a teacher being present.
Not enter any classroom without first knocking and receiving permission to enter.
General Conduct
Good manners, courtesy and respect towards one another and other members of the school community are required of students at all times.
Students are always required to respect and co-operate fully with teachers and other school staff.
Students should only use the door assigned to them when entering and leaving the school building.
Students are to assemble in a quiet and orderly manner in the social area assigned for assembly.
Students are required to be hygienic in person and neat and tidy in dress. School uniform must be worn at all times and hair should be well kept and in accordance with Health and Safety Regulations and as stipulated by school management from time to time.
Running, pushing, shouting, etc. of any degree is forbidden. Students should walk at all times on the left-hand side of the corridors and stairways and should not loiter in classrooms or cloakrooms. Cycling on any part of the school campus is forbidden.
Students must show care for school property both in the classrooms and outside and make good any damage to such property by neglect and/or misbehaviour.
Normal rules of courtesy apply when opening doors, entering or leaving rooms, when visitors enter the room and in moving from classroom to classroom.
Students must remain within the school campus during school hours and may only go outside with the prior permission of the Principal, Deputy Principal or designated teacher.
Junior School students are not allowed leave the school at lunchtime.
The only exception to this rule is if a parent collects their son/daughter from reception and returns with them again. There is a special register in reception for parents to sign upon departure and arrival of the student.
Written permission is required from parents/guardians if a student is to be allowed home. The School journal should be used for this purpose.
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in sports and recreational activities organised by the school. Students who, for health or other reasons, are prevented from so doing must provide a note signed by his/her parent/guardian to that effect.
Eating is permissible/allowed only in the designated area/s. Students must co-operate in keeping classrooms and school grounds neat and free of litter. All litter must be placed in waste bins.
The school cannot accept responsibility for the loss or damage of students’ property and accordingly parents/guardians are advised to ensure that each student’s property be labelled. Lockers are available to students at a nominal fee.
Valuables and money should, insofar as possible, be kept in one’s possession and should not be left in cloakrooms or in school bags.
Use of foul/obscene language, possession or taking of alcoholic drink/prohibited substances, smoking and/or any conduct or behaviour which in the view of the school management is unacceptable, are expressly forbidden on the school campus, on school outings, or during the time of any school activity.
